Geographically Diverse Group of IGs Come Together to Tout the Essential Role of Public Watchdogs
Ten Inspectors General from across the country and with diverse jurisdictions issued a statement emphasizing the importance of independent and robust watchdog agencies in maintaining a strong and functional democracy. The statement comes following comments made by President Joseph Biden during his State of the Union address celebrating the role of inspectors general in preventing and detecting fraud involving COVID relief funds.
“I feel great pride in standing side by side with my fellow inspectors general in affirming our commitment to fight corruption and waste,” said New York State Inspector General Lucy Lang. “This geographically diverse group of agencies demonstrates just how critical watchdogs are in ensuring that vital government programs that provide education, social safety nets, public safety and much more are not subverted or corrupted. I thank my colleagues who have come together to remind the public that we stand watch over the public good.”
