Nearly half of the gaming-related complaints received by the New York State Inspector General’s Office last year involved mobile sports betting, according to a new report.
State Inspector General Lucy Lang’s 2025 Annual Report on Gaming Commission Oversight shows the office received 481 gaming-related complaints during the year. Of those, 228 involved mobile sports wagering.
The report points to the growing role of online sports betting in New York and an increase in consumer disputes involving digital wagering platforms.
The Inspector General’s Office opened nine full investigations in 2025 involving allegations of fraud, corruption, abuse or other misconduct with potential financial or systemic impacts.
The office also conducted 19 training sessions — 15 in person and four virtually — for more than 400 New York State Gaming Commission employees.
Lang said increased participation in mobile sports wagering and continued changes within New York’s gaming industry make oversight increasingly important.
The Inspector General’s Office has been responsible for independent oversight of the State Gaming Commission and the entities it regulates since 2021. Its responsibilities include investigating allegations of fraud, corruption, criminal activity, conflicts of interest, and abuse.
The report comes as New York’s gaming industry continues to expand through mobile sports wagering, new casino development and emerging gaming technologies.
