Who We Are

The Offices of the Inspector General (“OIG”) are comprised of four offices: the New York State Inspector General (“NYSIG”); the Office of the New York State Welfare Inspector General (“OWIG”); the Office of the New York State Workers’ Compensation Fraud Inspector General (“WCFIG”); and the Office of the Gaming Inspector General (“GIG”). The Inspector General, who is appointed by the Governor and reports to the Secretary to the Governor, serves as the head of each of these four offices.

Lucy Lang

New York State Inspector General Lucy Lang is a lifelong New Yorker, attorney, and educator.

Prior to her appointment as New York State’s 11th Inspector General in October 2021, Lang served as Director of the Institute for Innovation in Prosecution (IIP), a national criminal justice reform think tank. She also served as an Assistant District Attorney in Manhattan, where she investigated and prosecuted violent crimes including homicides, gun violence, and domestic abuse, as well as Special Counsel for Policy and Projects. Lang brings her longstanding commitment to justice to bear in the Office’s investigations into corruption, waste, fraud, abuse, and misconduct in state government as well as deep experience designing and implementing practices that promote institutional integrity, transparency, and accountability.
